EpicWrite is a platform for creative writers of every genre. We believe in supporting your creative vision, not policing it. Instead of censorship, we use a rating system that helps readers find content they're comfortable with and helps authors reach their intended audience.
Ratings, not censorship
Great literature has always explored the full spectrum of human experience — love and violence, joy and trauma, light and darkness. We're not here to decide what stories deserve to exist.
EpicWrite supports all forms of creative expression. Authors self-rate their work using our content rating system, and readers can filter based on their preferences. This way, a children's book author and a horror novelist can both call EpicWrite home.
That said, creative freedom is not unlimited. There is a small set of content that is never acceptable on any platform. We outline those boundaries clearly below.
Authors self-rate their work. Readers filter by preference.
General Audiences
No violence beyond cartoon level, no sexual content, no profanity.
Examples: Children's books, cookbooks, poetry, educational non-fiction.
Teen & Up
Mild violence, romantic tension, occasional profanity. Themes appropriate for ages 13+.
Examples: YA fiction, fantasy, adventure, coming-of-age stories.
Mature
Graphic violence, sexual themes (non-explicit), heavy profanity, dark themes.
Examples: Thrillers, horror, war memoirs, dark fantasy, literary fiction.
Explicit
Explicit sexual content, extreme violence, graphic trauma depictions.
Examples: Erotica, splatterpunk horror, trauma memoirs, transgressive fiction.
In addition to ratings, authors can tag specific content warnings so readers know what to expect before they start reading.
These tags are optional but encouraged. They help readers make informed choices and help your work reach people who will appreciate it most.
Regardless of rating or genre, the following content is strictly prohibited. Violations result in immediate account termination.
Sexual content involving minors in any form. This includes fictional characters explicitly described as underage.
Explicit sexual content depicting identifiable real people without their consent.
Step-by-step instructions for creating weapons, manufacturing drugs, or planning acts of terrorism, even when disguised as fiction.
Content that names or identifies real people for the purpose of harassment, intimidation, or incitement to violence.
Our AI systems check content ratings for accuracy and flag potential policy violations automatically. This keeps the process fast without putting a human reviewer between you and your creativity.
If our system detects a mismatch between your self-assigned rating and your actual content, we'll ask you to update it. No penalty — just a nudge to keep things accurate.
Edge cases and reported content are reviewed by real humans who understand context. We know the difference between a villain's dialogue and an author's endorsement.
If you encounter content that violates this policy, please let us know. Every report is reviewed, and we take action quickly on confirmed violations.
